I ride every day. Ever since I started riding on an old 360 Honda, my hands would start to tingle and become numb after a short while. With more miles the numbness would just get worse. Sometimes I couldn’t even feel the handlebars. This was dangerous! I'd have to pull over just to let my circulation start again. Sometimes, I'd be riding with other people and they'd have to stop and wait with me until my hands became ‘mine’ again. Once, I had to stop on a freeway. Just as my arms were tingling back to life, a police officer pulled up. I told him what was up and he said he understood. He still did a field sobriety test and ran me on his computer before he would let me go. What an annoyance! In spite of all this, I still love the freedom I feel when I’m riding in the sun. I met Ken Hunter at the San Francisco Motorcycle Clubhouse. As we talked, I told him of my problem. He told me that the syndrome was quite common. He opined that I had it pretty bad, but said that he could fix the problem at its source, no worries. He showed me the Hunter Flat Bars installed on his V-Max. He said to swing a leg over and get a whole new grip on motorcycling. It seems like such a simple idea. It immediately made sense to me. Why hadn’t someone thought of this before? The grip wasn’t cylindrical! It was shaped to fit my hand perfectly. I immediately bought a pair, and had Ken install them himself. He was done in less than an hour, including a few minutes to set the throttle angle just perfectly for me. And perfect it is! I've been using the Flat Bars for a year now, and I haven't had any problem since they were installed. No more numbness or tingling while I'm out riding my faithful steed, a black ’01 Honda Nighthawk 750. A month ago I suggested a thumb relief would be nice to ease the stretch for people like me with small hands. Even though he was already in production, he put my thumb relief idea into the design. Really helped me out. Thanks so very much Ken! © 2008 Hunter Design Group. All rights reserved. |
